Oh Good More Flooding
May 15th 2018 - That day the heavens opened up, most of Frederick was flooded, and the carpet I paid to have put down, ripped up due to flood, and paid to have put down again will need to be ripped up, thrown out, and a better solution found. Specifically, grinding down the old concrete floor to level it (somewhat) and putting in all new flooring. This one, I did not ask for.
Oh hey. Let’s paint the walls a better color grey while we’re at it, huh?
Fighting a losing battle.
My panicked self decided to try and empty the wet-dry vac into the washer. Filled up and water was still coming. So much for that tactic.
So we resigned to sitting back and watching the water come in.
Don’t think of it as losing a home theater - think of it as gaining a swimming pool.
Waterlogged Carpet Padding
Rotten carpet tack strips.
A quick detour to see what the water did to others. Check out the debris up on the grass, showing where the water had risen to.
I did a triple take - “Wait… I don’t remember there being a shed there.”
The water rose, swept this enormous shed out of a backyard, and carried it to this perch. If not for the guardrail, it might have made its way to the Chesapeake and beyond.
So it turns out the carpet in the gym wasn’t faring much better.
Oh yeah. That can’t be healthy.
Well… shit.
Respirator - activate.
A few years after install, it’s time to say goodbye to the carpet. Lessons learned.
Rented a concrete grinder to take off the sealer before pouring some leveler. At this point, I still didn’t realize what I was getting myself into.
At this point, I started to realize what I had gotten myself into.
You wouldn’t believe how much dust this kicked up.
Many MANY hours later, it’s… kinda better I think.
Did you know self leveling concrete is kinda expensive? Because I did not know that.
Leveler poured. It’s… not perfect. But much better.
Drying.
The most spartan 120” 4k projector setup you’re ever gonna see.
Pouring a taller door sill to help prevent future flooding.
IS THIS RIGHT?! AM I DOING THIS RIGHT!?!?
That extra 4” should help. thatswhatshesaid.gif
Had been meaning to change the neutral wall color. I went Worldly Gray after 45 minutes of pretending to know what I was looking for.
Thank you VIPOutlet for the discount waterproof flooring.
Blurry painting.
My bread and butter as a home reno guy - flooring installation.
Feeling good about my color choice!
Vally providing moral support.
Crack in my phone’s camera glass makes it look shinier than it really is.
Back in business!
