Basement Gym 1.0
Getting home from work to a happy dog only to turn back around and head to the gym sucks. So in looking to finish the basement, I decided half needed to be turned into a home gym. Let the Craigslist hunt begin!
Hi-Low pulley for $130? Check.
All put together next to the walls-in-progress.
Vally rates my dumbbell rack, $50 from Play-It-Again Sports, a 2/10, “not even fluffy”.
Recumbent bike for $60 at Goodwill? Sure! Why the hell not.
This treadmill ($450, craigslist) is a heavy mother and I essentially had to build a rail system to roll it inside.
“Gee Mike, how are you gonna get that heavy treadmill downstairs?”
“Hold my beer.”
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG
Can you believe that worked? I can not believe that worked.
Progress.
Horse stall mats from Tractor Supply are the cheapest, strongest rubber gym floor you’ll ever find.
Starting to look like something!
Walls aren’t even finished, and I’ve already got a TV mounted. Priorities.
Look out, Equinox.
Walls in and painted. Dip station from Restore for $60. Dumbbells mostly from Play-it-Again Sports at 59 cents a pound. Feeling like a gym!
I took the two mirrors behind the dumbbells out of their frames and wall mounted them. Then I painted the inside of the now-empty frames with chalkboard paint and hung them for workout tracking. $80 total.
This is great and all, but you know what it’s missing? Onna them fancy ballerina barre things. THAT’S what I’ve been missing.
A Rep Fitness adjustable bench to finish it up, and I’ve got myself a gym.
Fin.
